Aureal went bankrupt. Creative owns the IP. Creative will not release 
specs.

Kind of makes sense, because the AU8830 was significantly more powerful 
than the then-current SB Live, and Creative's EAX technology was 
considered inferiod to A3D 2.0.

That said, the jolly boys at FreeBSD have an Aureal driver, however it's 
just a simple wave device. e.g. your 3d-geometric-rendering sound card 
gets turned into a DAC.

The aureal.sourceforge.net team has ported said driver to Linux, although 
they also maintain the old driver-with-a-binary-kernel-module.
