I am working at an office with more than 60 computers.
Some *nix boxes and most are windows.
There is a need for us to perform inventory for all
hardware and software deployed on all computers.
From what hardware components are installed to
different software versions or licenses (for windows boxes).
Is there some way of automating all these?
How do large enterprises perform something like this?
Should we still rely on the good 'ol pen and paper?
(Attaching product/asset code on each computer)
Is there an open source software which would
at least cut the workload by half? Maybe by scanning
all the network computers and telling me what it
sees? (hardware)
