Ah, I was evidently mislead by an earlier e-mail in this thread, which
stated:

     Does RedHat Linux 9 kernel support NTFS filesystem?

Anyhow, it would be extremely advisable to match versions exactly
(whenever using precompiled binaries of this sort), including processor
optimisation (i586, etc. -- and also uniproc vs. SMP).
