i did that a while ago. it's pretty straightforward.
get the cvs,
./configure.
figure out what packages are missing. they're
probably on your install CDs, so no need to download
from the net. i don't think i had to, anyway.
the hardest part (and it's not that difficult, really) is figuring
out what packages the missing include/lib files it needs are
in.
make
make install
the worst part is the bandwidth requirement :). my copy is 418 meg.
took me a while to download. although, i cheated, i did the cvs
co from a box at the ISP, so fat pipes, then i put it on a CD :).
