Strange. Every version of Postfix I've used from the ancient 19991231 to the present 2.x series has relay control in the mynetworks and relay_domains parameters. I imagine you've set these to the correct values for your network. Double check them. I've deployed more postfix boxes than I care to remember and what you describe has never happened to me.
