OpenMOSIX is basically Linux (was FreeBSD) specific. there is a great deal of code to port OpenMOSIX to a different platform. in the case of OpenSSI for Alpha, the HP people decided to spend that effort on OpenSSI. but, instead unbundling it, they merged it into a single product.
however, this should no problem as OpenSSI should work with OpenMOSIX. just check the version numbers. besides, why would you like to cluster dissimilar architectured machines? just curious. as for heartbeat, backup not releasing problem is pretty common. it is nearly always a miss configured backup server. however, sometimes there is just a delay. hope this helps.
