We have been able to do this, but it required the X.509 patches to
FreeS/WAN, or the Super FreeS/WAN or Openswan patches (which incorporate
the X.509 patches).  You can get these at:

http://www,strongsec.com/freeswan (X.509 patch)
http://www.openswan.org/ (openswan)
http://www.freeswan.ca/ (Super FreeS/WAN)

You need to then create X.509 certificates and import them into your VPN
client.
