If you're using a 2.4 or 2.6 kernel, chances are you can create files
that surpass 2GB. Most filesystems already support 2+GB or more.

The tools, of course, need to support handling of large files. They need
to be compiled using a C library that supports opening files with
O_LARGEFILE.
