Hi PLUG, Diwa, and 'Yam, Diwa, thank you for your group's desire to help.
'Yam, SFD will be celebrated world-wide on August 28, 2004. In the Philippines, there is no definite venue yet, ideas are still up in the air. I'm sure we'll get one or more venues in a few days. More important than the venues are the stuff that we're going to do to promote Free and Open Source Software to the average Pedro. As I've said in a previous email, we can initially follow what softwarefreedomday.org has in mind, that is distributing Software Freedom Starter Packs (Knoppix/MandrakeMove + OpenCD [+ SFD shirt] ). It's up to us to be creative in how we're going to get them out to people. With people's help, I think we could also organize a few talks and training sessions geared towards introducing people to FOSS and what it's all about, giving them "how to get started in FOSS" and "how FOSS can help you and your org" type of tracks. I also would like some testimonies and experience from people from the academe, from government, and from business, who have tried FOSS. But these are just my dumb ideas, the whole thing is very open to suggestions. I think the topics for this occassion need not be too technical, since the goal of the whole thing is to promote awareness and shatter the FUD about FOSS.
