it's not dangerous, in fact it's good :)
postfix has a feature to reduce the allowed idle time of mail connections.

most high-latency mail senders are trojaned boxes anyway. also, as a 
matter of policy ISP's should force their end-users to relay thru the 
ISP's mail relays. that makes mail work better, and reduces spam being 
sent thru the ISP.
