there's a bug in the silicon image driver in 2.4.26 as far as i know.. see

i installed RHEL3 (well, the White Box version) and it installed.. but 
there were some problems with the default kernel after installation (e.g. 
it installed but wouldn't boot properly). ended up installing a custom 
kernel, boot from floppy, with the siimage fix of course.

never used the RAID, SATA RAID is poor man's RAID, better use Linux 
software RAID and lessen the number of unknowns..
