"Linux on the Desktop". If we want our 'lola' or 'manang' ( or non-english
speaking pinoy) to be able to use Evolution (for example) for emails, etc... then we
have to get those applications translated in their native dialect (or in
tagalog/filipino at least). Anyone who is concerned with the usability of
their software understands this.

So? "Most of us" doesn't always represent the majority of the population.
We're talking about localization here. If you're fine with the defaults, then
good. Some people can't understand english.

geez... making software usable and localized is now unproductive.

So what if the GNOME-i18n people decides to translate the whole GNOME stack
in tagalog so people from provinces and non-english speaking people can use
GNOME in their computers? Are we gonna say "Nah, most of us understand
English and we are the best Asian English speaking people. And oh, it's our
second language!". Please. Let us get Linux in these people's desktops.
