It all depends to one's nature of work. I'm more an NGO Manager than an active Open Source advocate. So I have to adjust to an environment that is used to Windows for me to be effective in relating with people. So my choice is any Linux distribution that is capable of connecting with Windows machines. I would have loved Xandros but I have to buy the Standard/Business Edition. The same with Win4Lin. So I always have to rely on RedHat/Fedora.
But if the choice were between Slackware and Debian, my two cents for Debian.

Sorry, it was a subjective comparison, and I really should have clarified what I meant.
What I really meant that, as a general rule, Slackware is slow to change compared to other distros. "Stability" in that most of the core packages are left at the "version that works", and that usually Slackware is slow to change.

you don't have to apologize, i'm just after the reason behind your statement
because i thought you might be using a "stress-test" software on some
gnu/linux services that i should try out. =)
anyway, i have the same reason why i prefer debian.(flame > /dev/null)
