Correct. Who would've thought the day would come huh? Pretty shocking, actually. MS have clearly taken the Linux threat seriously and responded admirably. Windows users have Linux to thank for the improvements in their OS, no two ways about it imo.

I don't think anyone was claiming that Linux can't be made 'slimmer'. The point of the article was that *mainstream Linux distros* were bloated.

Linux, of course, being infinitely more tweakable.

Interestingly enough, Windoze seems to do something similar. Just leave a Mozilla window with a few dozen tabs untouched for half an hour or so and not do much else in the background (like say, just edit a text file)... you will find that when you return focus to it, it will take a while as it needs to be swapped in again.
One thing you can do with Linux that you can't in Windoze is to completely turn off virtual memory so you never face this situation.

LOL... and the problem with Linux (esp. back when I was just learning to use it many many years ago) is the fact that a lot of the impt. docs came ONLY in the *completely user-hostile* gnu info format which I have to say I _STILL_ haven't gotten used to after one fscking decade! GNU keybindings make you go Gngngngngngn.... :-)
