I believe some applications like Mozilla and XMMS do have instance-checking logic. But it's hard to add that to all the legacy applications out ther.. (like Xterm!) I mean the concept of a "running-program registry" and a unique key for every program version is kind of alien to the Wild Wild West process management of UNIX. and kludges like checking "ps" won't work because we have no way of knowing if a given xterm or what-not is different or the same.. Besides Windows applications can also misbehave that way. I think what ought to be done is, once the X pointer changes to the "twirling hourglass," disable program launches for a fixed amount of time. I believe I did something like that in the ancient FvwmCDE (when the panel LED is blinking, you can't launch new apps, kinda like a monostable multivibrator). But that would suck on a fast machine.. you really can't please everybody.. --- Orlando Andico <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mosaic Communications, Inc. -- Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [EMAIL PROTECTED] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Official Website: http://plug.linux.org.ph Searchable Archives: http://marc.free.net.ph .
