Wow.. i can feel the tension when Sir Ian Sison started to speak. I
seemed to have picked the seat surrounded by the "unbelievers" ;p

Here are more points we missed to discuss during the open forum:

1. open source can jump start your technology - Having the source
means being able to duplicate and enchance the technology. Like if i
have downloaded a bluetooth stack (BlueZ) and Open Obex source codes
to install them. I also gained access to the technology itself, i can
complete study the codes and the implementation thus enriching my
skills (this would include HCI, SPD and OBEX which i already have ;p).

Microsoft users however does not benefit like this way, they rely on
API which does not tell how the implementation/re-production of
technology is done. In short M$ users are technology users, opensource
users are technology makers. It also allows us to go ahead and pursue
new cutting edge technologies unlike M$ users who has to wait until M$
actually uses the technology. ;p

Before i forget.. who has an API on Bluetooth stack for WindowsXP SP2?
i need it badly.. do i have to wait till MSDN releases that or SP2
comes out? ;p

2. Opensource has the most fanatical support which M$ would be hard to
duplicate! i can assure that coz i read mails till 3am. ;p For M$ to
have the same support, well they would need to open up their source
code.. which i bet they wouldnt ;p

3. Opensource has no Service Pack waiting.. coz you know the
technology, you can fix it ASAP yourself and for good karma you can
share that to the rest of the community. On the other M$ users will
have to wait.. Again, who knows when will WinXP SP2 come out? ;p

I missed the BOF on track 3 coz i was at BOF on track 2 but i hope
this adds up to the discussions, for those who attend the other tracks
can you guys also post your comments?
