I read the article where SpecOps is claiming their vast improvements/differences over WINE (in Inq7).
Basically, their claim is that, their system is much more mature than WINE, even if it does use WINE components... so it's superior. But --- I believe the theory was that "David" is not so much WINE-derived, as *CrossOver Office* derived. A friend of mine has been using CrossOver Office (you can get it from BitTorrent... technically, piracy) to run MS Outlook 2003 (!!) and Office XP on SuSE 9.1. And he has yet to find glitches in the implementation. Translation: CrossOver is already THERE in terms of functionality (he hasn't tried running Visual Studio 2003 though..) and so the reasoning that "David is not WINE because it's better than WINE" is not exactly a solid argument.
