Hi All!
Is there an option in STAR wherein it would
automatically detect the end of tape, much like TAR's
-m option?
It seems that with STAR you'd have to specify the
tape size via the -tsize=# option, of which i have
doubts with; i.e. given a 20/40Gb DLT tape, what
capacity should you specify?
If i specify 20Gb, then i'm not really making
efficient use of the cartridge or the tape drive's
hardware compression. On the other hand if i specify
40gb, the 2:1 compression is only an estimate -- if
actual compression is only 1.2 : 1, then aren't you
effectively "overburning" the cartridge(which i assume
is not a good idea)?
btw, the value i specified with -tsize is tape
capacity / 512. Is this correct?
Thanks in advance
