I think that *beyond* providing cheap PCs, what we need is a definite information infrastructure to work with. As an example, our organization is currently pushing for a "farmer's internet" project that will provide an information service regarding agricultural trends and technologies. This includes online expert help, SMS-based info service, an internet portal (primarily targetted for agricultural extension workers, but will also apply to farmers), and barangay internet kiosks. We plan to leverage the existing information networks of ASTI and DA for this. Slightly OT, I think, but cheap PCs are not enough for our country's IT woes -- it's how to package much-need information and make it reach the concerned sectors. -- Ian Dexter R.
