Generally, it's a *bad* idea to combine both drives on a single IDE channel. But if there isn't any other way, putting the writer in /dev/hdc, the CDROM in /dev/hdd and setting the writer's jumpers to `master' out to take some heat out of the oven. I like your older setup though, so it might be better if you stick with that, if you have a choice ;) > After about 2 minutes, the CD is mounted and I can usually continue as > normal. Are you using 2.6's improve ide-cd, or are you still hung over with ide-scsi? I read somewhere that 2.6 ide-cd still isn't good enough for cdrecord dev=ATA:, though that might be wrong...
