Cheapo hubs/switches. Have the cnet hubs for dirt cheap, and it works
like dirt cheap too. :)

These cheap hubs/switches works well stealthily, like at 30% network
utilization. But push them to 50% or higher, it exhibits problems like
hanging and extremely slow (we are talking 3-8KB/sec here) file access
after a few minutes of file transfers especially with huge 650Mb
files.

what you can do is quickly try another high quality hub/switch and see
if it goes away, or run ethereal on Linux and ethereal/winpcap combo
in windows to see what's happening.
