Which really happened ages ago when NDAs came to use. Had there been any
intervention before, we might be still old, not GNU...

Unfortunately, the situation is looking grim[1]. A look at Planet
Debian[2] tells me the current sentiment is `Europe is more and more
becoming a Banana Republic[3]'.
