It's not knee-jerk, Orly. The point is these reports try to look like independent studies and should thus be unbiased, it later comes out that the organizations that made them have received funding from one of the groups that stands to gain from a favorable result for them. I think it would be exceedingly foolish for anyone to assume that such a study would not be biased or tainted in any way, Microsoft or no. It's a standard corporate FUD tactic, and other corporations besides Microsoft are known to have employed it whenever something comes up that threatens their position in the market or they've been caught in the act of doing something illegal or unethical. If there were a true independent TCO, Security, or whatever study of GNU/Linux vs. Windows that received no funding from Microsoft, Novell, IBM, Red Hat, or any other group that had an interest in seeing the results go one way or the other, then perhaps it would be worth something more than our scorn. -- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. http://stormwyrm.blogspot.com/ -- Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List plug@lists.q-linux.com (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Official Website: http://plug.linux.org.ph Searchable Archives: http://marc.free.net.ph .
