Same here, have been planning to.  I have an old USB camera, and the
vendor was kind enough to give me the tech specs to.  Been wanting to
write a driver so I can use linux to download pictures from it.  Had
started compiling samples from the 2nd edition book.  But that's as far
as I've gotten around to doing.
