Well, at this point I would be surprised if Linux wasn't being used in all
of those places, but I've never looked into it.

As far as home automation, there's quite a bit, and at least a large
portion of it would run very happily on a Raspberry Pi. See this page for
some links to different systems:

came up on a quick search. I've used a couple of them for just little
pieces - I don't have a large setup yet.

Here's a fun one that no longer really seems to have any support, but it's
a fun proof of concept level. I want to expand on it at some point.
