A lot of documention is also out of date given how long slackware has been around, so there has been an effort to collect everything on docs.slackware.com. You can rely on the info there as long as it pertains to the version of slackware you are running. It's not a bad idea to check docs.slackware.com, there are some nice articles that can clarify the usual questions.
