just replace "MySQL" with "MariaDB".
Okay.

So during the installation, when there was an option for mysqld, was
that MySQL or MariaDB?

There is no MySQL. It's dead, deceased, kaput, pining for the fjords.

The name of the project changed, not the underlying filenames and
configuration. Thus, you can usually just copy over the configuration
files from a MySQL install as-is. In Slackware,

/etc/rc.d/rc.mysqld

fires up a MariaDB database instance.

This is a bit thin but covers the bare bones basics.

Thanks. I'll pursue this once I get the other parts of LAMP working.
