If I try to run the HP software on my virtual Win7 machine, it won't find the printer, even when I give it the IP address that shows in the printer's status window.

I sent the info in my last post to the HPLIP support page on Tuesday but have not had a response. It occurred to me that I should be able to set up the printer and the scanner from my virtual Win7 machine (which I tried the other day, too) and that I should be able to connect with a live support person at HP to get that working. While it took many attempts, I finally got through their phone system and was connected to a tech. I gave him permission to take over the machine and watched him try all the things I tried. Then he asked permission to delete those programs and install a newer version. I gave him the permission and he manually installed printing and scanning software on my Win7 machine. He commented that the printer is very new, and that the software is more geared towards Win8 and 10, but they keep upgrading it. Once he installed the HP Scan software and HP printer driver, they both work. While it's not ideal, at least I can now scan. (As I mentioned before, I can print from by Ubuntu MATE 18 and Slackware 42.)

I wonder if there's a similar problem with the HPLIP software, where there's something fussy related to this printer, and they haven't gotten it stabilized. I hope so, and I hope they fix it so I can use Xsane again.
