Stands for Carbon Copy Cloner. Is there an open source free alternative for Mac OS X Mojave that is just as good?
Some background: rsync went GPLv3 and Apple decided to stop with the GPLv2 version in macOS. CCC uses a later version that supports essential (as you've discovered) attributes etc. I have used it for years with good success for my boot volumes. My data volumes are OpenZFS, because, OpenZFS.
I will bring this up with my bsd.lv colleague who as produced openrsync, a BSD-licensed rsync implementation that has been incorporated into OpenBSD. Thanks for the prod.
