Hello, I've had something strange happen to be a couple time snow. On
my Linux desktop when I completely exhaust all my 16G of RAM the system
instead of properly activating OOM it will completely lock up to the
point I can't even Cntrl-Alt-Fx to a terminal to fix things. Sometimes
I can kick the system back into working by forcing a OOM killer via
SysRq but shouldn't this automatically kick in way before the system
becomes unresponsive? I can't even SSH in ounce it's reached this
state. Oddly it still responds to pings though.
Normally it's heavy multitasking I'm doing when this occurs although
with how bloated web2.0 browsers are nowadays those are usually the
biggest memory hogs.
I've tried adding a swap and reducing vm.swappiness to 14, but that
didn't seem to have any change. the system still locks up ounce ram is
full.
