Your faith in HP products is misplaced, I think.
I had an HP2605DN color printer that suffered that problem (and an
Internet search will show that I wasn't alone). Over time the print
quality would seriously degrade because toner dust would coat the
internal mirrors. After messing with that process twice I took the
printer to the recycler and vowed to never buy another HP laser printer.
And I only ever used genuine HP toner cartridges.

buy $120 OEM HP cartridges soon, rather than $50 brandX
refills,
