Good advice. I wish I knew of a good service shop.

If I'm the best, we are all in BIG trouble :-)

Streaks are either spots on the laser imaging mirrors,
or a worn out transfer belt.  More likely the belt;
laser problems usually cause washed-out or absent colors.

That said, I do have a 2605dn printer, and stockpiled
spares, and stockpiled transfer belts, which I zealously
hoard to last until I (and my wife) croak. I have needed
to replace belts. That is a 20 minute fix given a new
belt assembly, about $100 on eBay from time to time.
I also have a spare duplexer/fuser; the separator pawls
are fragile and no longer available.

Download manuals, know your part numbers, watch eBay,
buy and stockpile spares.

More often, leaky toner gets on mirrors in the imaging
laser module, and those are a pain in the a$$ to clean.
To do so, you must remove a dozen cables and boards to get
to the module and the mirrors, which are cooled by a fan
from the compartment holding the toner cartridges. :-(

Takes more than an hour. About 20% of the time I break
a connector and bork the printer.

Hence the spare machines, so my wife (who is likely to
outlast me by decades, her father turns 102 this year)
does not have to deal with that.

I've considered upgrading to a new color laser printer,
but I want ethernet and native postscript and decent-
capacity cartridges. And legal and A4 paper trays.
And duplexing. And durability and repairability and tech
manuals. While my ancient HPs are imperfect, I haven't
found anything better so far. Kinda frightening.

We are indeed all in trouble ...

Keith

P.S. if someone wants dibs on my spares, find me a good
lawyer to write a will, and I'll add you to the will.
Eat healthy, exercise, and hope to outlive my wife. :-)
