I have this very special cat5e patch cable - which I am now really attached to.
The cable has good end to end continuity test, but only works at 100Mb/s.

Any ideas what this could be caused by - realistically verifiable ideas only
please?

Story for long days:
The cable worked at normal 1Gbs, I think, but I had both latches broken. It was
distracting, to say the least, losing contact by falling out of the port in hard
to reach place. I was traveling, so I got replacement at $30 per 5ft at best buy
- it is probably made of special asteroid mined material and assembled by very
educated .... Anyway, I re-patched it after my return, continuity tested it and
it is working at 100Mb/s - like if I would miss a pair, despite correct wiring
and continuity. I tried different and verified ports and PCs.

To be sure, I have re-patched it again and continuity tested, still runs at
100Mb/s. This patch cable is probably the most valuable in the galaxy now -
perhaps I should offer it to best buy to sell at huge discount at $100 per 5ft.

So if you have any ideas - which I can check in minute or so with linux or
multimeter - or you are capable of testing if I send you the patch cable - I
would be grateful to know at this time of crisis.

I hope this has been entertaining story,
Tomas
