are you trying to install the 173 driver from the .run file you listed? an 8000 series card should use either 306.x or 340.x series drivers. 173 is a transitional version that overlaps and is not part of the official support cycle. On ubuntu 173 does some really psychadelic stuff with the colors and isnt even necessary.
Your uname says kernel 3.10 so you should be supported. Thats not a new kernel. Go through nvidias driver selection page and get the latest for your card Note that it will probably still fail. But thats a different problem and should be dealt with as it comes up.
