I'm having the opposite of Dick's problem. I just built a new

using an ASUS Pro B460M-C motherboard with 32GB or RAM. I'm
trying to
install CentOS7. I have both DVD and USB stick. I get the initial
menu to
choose install, test media and install, or troubleshoot.
Regardless of what
I choose, the screen blanks and nothing happens. I have also
tried a
Knoppix DVD with the same results.
No commentary on distribution needed, I must install CentOS 7.
I'll try
other things for troubleshooting, but in the end, I need CentOS7
installed.
Any ideas?
web search? RTFM?

CentOS uses a graphical GUI installation process. With a newer
system,
esp with newer GPU, I would not expect the older kernel and X/Mesa
to
have the appropriate GPU modules/drivers.
I'm not sure how CentOS instructions help me.
I did a search on plop boot cd.
https://www.pendrivelinux.com/boot-from-usb-without-bios-support-via-
plop-cd/
has an image showing the Plop menu, which I get. Not all of the
entries
are present as in my situation, but usb is on the list. I arrow down
to
it, hit <ENTER> and a new menu appears with shorter set of entries.
However, the cursor does not respond to the down arrow key, and the
only
way to proceed is to power down.
So, I know that the Plop CD boots, but don't know why it doesn't
transfer booting to the USB stick. I've tried putting the USB stick
in
front USB ports, and back USB ports with no change in the results.
Unfortunately, I don't have the USB sticks from previous installs on
the
Jetway machine. The two sicks I have are Xubuntu 18.04 and 20.04. One
of
them probably used to have Slackware on it, but not anymore.
Bottom line, I know the CD used to work, because I used it to
install
two different OSs on the Jetway in the past.
I do not want to judge - a lots of things work differently than thy
used to. Why waste calories on fighting with obscure way of doing
things? Just follow the installation guide.

They also have instructions on creating CD/DVD. They seem pretty
detailed.
If you do not have USB stick - and need one - send me your address off
the list and I will snail mail you one with Prime.
Hope that helps, Tomas
It looks like this board might be too old for USB booting. I pulled up
the manual and its running a stone age AMI BIOS that doesn't even have a
"boot options" section. That explains why he is using plop too.
Chances are the bootloader on the usb stick is messed up. Easy to do
these days since the MBR of the stick isn't used for EFI booting so you
might not even notice that it's messed up on modern systems. If you can,
just burn a CD/DVD and use that.
