Again, this is a Windows program, but it's awesome.  Foobar2000 is a
music player that has some great id3 tag manipulation and scripting.
I created a script that would add custom a field that I use for rating
songs, and I changed the music player interface to show me the number
of stars associated with a song.  So now, I hit Ctrl-[0-5] to assign a
number of stars between 0 and 5, and it's reflected in the display.
My point is that it is easy to modify and to view the metadata of
songs from within foobar2000.  It's an ugly program by default, but
it's very configurable to make it as pretty as you want.  You can see
