The Moonlight project seems to be making decent progress. I think their job will be easier than the gnash project's, and they've got development support from Novell and a widely-used code base. I wouldn't count Silverlight out as a reasonable cross-platform multimedia framework.
How is Silverlight a better option than Flash? Microsoft is more closed-source than Adobe and significantly less likely to support Linux than Adobe.
