Doran is right about being skittish about
connecting-to-your-database-as-root. However, that is completely
unrelated to using PostgreSQL vs MySQL. No applications should ever
connect as root. root should only be used to manage
users/permissions.
For the record mysql has it's own "root" account that is completely
seperate from the system root account.
