I used Penguin Computing about 9 years ago. They were very cool then, but I 
heard they went downhill after that. 

Like you said, Dell's okay. They have decent support for commercial/enterprise 
versions of Linux distributions, but I'm not crazy about them.

For most of the last decade, I've built my own servers, either using Tyan, 
MSI, or ASUS server boards. More recently, however, I've been using SuperMicro 
A+ (AMD) solutions and have been very happy. The prices are on-par with Dell 
(pretty affordable), but I get exactly what I want.

I've been very impressed with the SuperMicro twin systems- these are, 
essentially, two complete server systems in one 1U chassis.
