At work, we deal with a few vendors- Sun, HP and Dell mainly. HP by-and-far is the better vendor in terms of hardware quality and most bang for your buck. What really makes HP stand head and shoulders above the rest is their iLO interface. There just isn't another hardware vendor out there that competes well in that area. Their SAS drives are top quality, and their blades are solid. The Dell equipment is sub-par at best. The chassis for the PowerEdge servers we have is cheap and thin. Their DRAC interface SUCKS. They might be cheap, but you get what you pay for, and it really is cheap stuff. Our Sun stuff is okay, but I wouldn't put much faith in their hardware division if the Oracle deal goes through. Only time will tell. I know Sun fanboys argue that no hardware is superior to Sparc, but I don't see the quality in the hardware we have. Our HP stuff is better, if you ask me. -- . O . O . O . .
