I think I didn't help this thread by encouraging the philosophy. So,
back to the original question, is there a way to GET/RECEIVE advice
better about companies in the area? One potential tool is
Glassdoor.com, a website where you can anonymously post reviews of
your own company, and then read the reviews others have left about
their companies.

Local tech darling Omniture, for example, used to have a glossy 5/5
rating, but has tapered off that in recent months. However, only 23
people on earth have submitted reviews for Omniture, which is less
than 2% of their staff... so it doesn't likely hold a statistical
significance. Yet, the reviews are by people with certain titles, and
those might help you. Here's OMTR's Glassdoor page:
http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Omniture-Reviews-E15169.htm#

But, of course, this tool (or any other) won't be helpful without
people participating. Also, getting the word out publicly about
things you don't agree with might be a good way to actually get it
addressed. Maybe take a moment and review your current company. It
might help us all.
