My platoon and I are going to Iraq and we need a couple terrabytes of
disk space for movies to keep us entertained while we're over there.
The current plan is to get four 1TB drives (because it's cheaper than
getting one 4TB or 2 2TB drives), and they're thinking about getting
external USB drives. They're getting some kind of intermediary
hardware so movies saved on the HD can be played on a television, and
it requires a USB port. The current plan is to get drives that are
USB powered but I question how well that's going to work.

The only other constraints are that the total cost for the whole setup
has to be $3,000 or less, and of course that it shouldn't fail before
we leave the country (about one year) even when exposed to dust, sand,
and high temperatures.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks,
Dan
