Problem: I want to scan a 10 hour video and get a printout of timestamps where the light levels darken by about 10 percent (2 percent if you count the letter boxing) as a person steps in front of light source in the distance.
Any suggestions? Story: Someone has been dropping off trinket gifts at my apartment as a 12 days of christmas thing. I recorded 10 hours from sun-down to sun-up from a slit in the vent on a cheapo webcam in black and white, no sound. So now I have 10 hours of video... with about 2 seconds in there somewhere with a person coming up the stairs and going back down. I've heard of a program called "motion", but as you can imagine, googling for examples of how one might use the code is fruitless and the man page is tldr by about 1000 pages.
