FPGA's are all right, but the ASIC's are where it's really at. For ~100 watts, 
you can get 10000 Mhash/s. That's ~129 Mhash/Joule.

Your 6950's, by comparison, are only at 1.94 Mhash/Joule.

That's pretty significant. ;-)
