I've gotten my last two jobs (totaling over 13 years of IT) via
contacts made on IRC. I've had pretty crummy luck with job sites,
mostly due to looking bad on paper. Back when I was looking, I used
CareerBuilder, Dice, and Monster. In terms of unsolicited contacts, I
get quite a few via LinkedIn, probably because it's the only site I
actually keep it up to date, as I don't primarily use it as a
job-hunting site. (Oh, hey, PLUG has a group on there, too.)
Expanding on Steve's point, even within the same site, a number of the
jobs are regurgitated by third-party recruiters, with various details
