Just for kicks I tried to convert the epub version of Linux Journal to txt. It mostly worked, but the source code snippets lost all their indenting. Converting to markdown format worked a little better, preserving the source code format, but then you have all the markdown tags. Maybe that can be converted to a downloadable txt file.
