Do you need resources from c/c++ files (.dll, .exe) or .net files only? It's actually really easy to do in C# for .net files. I'm reasonably sure that would run under Mono, but not positive. A small utility to extract icons might be easier to get running under WINE than a full application, though. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1538558/c-sharp-get-the-default-icon-of-an-exe-file http://perschluter.com/extract-associated-icon-from-exe-file-in-c-sharp/ http://www.howtogeek.com/109347/extract-high-quality-icons-from-files-using-a-free-tool/ http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/26824/Extract-icons-from-EXE-or-DLL-files http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/dot_net_resources_extract.html Those examples probably only work on clr executables, not compiled C/C++ resources. There are 0-cost utilities to extract resources from old-school executables: http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/resourcextract/?source=navbar with imagemagick you can just: convert windows.ico whatever.png That might create a bunch of files, but then you can pick which one you want.
