Why did it occur to you that no one is using Samba anymore?  By the
way, the latest versions of Samba include all the functionality of an
ActiveDirectory domain controller, so it can be your LDAP management
layer. One downside to this is that it sort of assumes that you're
going to use an actual Windows machine (or VM at least) for its
management control panels, though. Not an entirely crazy assumption
due to the purpose of Samba being interop with Windows, but it'd still
be nice to have better Linux-native management tools.
