When I got your second-last post I re-ran the test with verbose 1 and
got sound, but with two errors for cook.so and cook.so.6.0

When I got your last post I moved lame.exe from
mswin32-x86-multi-thread to bin and copied and pasted the 4 dll files
back to the hand-made codecs folder they were in to start with, i.e.
they are now in both codecs folders.

I ran the test again with exactly the same result.

Then I moved mplayer.exe up one level to the mswin32(etc) folder...

and it works!
