Background: I'm closing in on the dream of getting my entire music collection ripped, FLAC'd, tagged, binned and backed-up to (lots of!) DVDs, and I'm looking ahead at the problem of rating.
In my opinion, dynamic playlists are one of the killer features of digital music, and incorporating the listener's preferences through 'ratings' is a critical part. I've voted for bug 142, but in the meantime, I'm planning to do this myself. I want the ratings to end up in each track's metadata, but I also agree with one of the comments in bug 142 that SlimServer shouldn't be modifying the files itself. Question: What I want is a plugin that, when the listener presses 1 to 5 on the remote, simply appends the filename of the current track and the number that was pressed to a file somewhere. With that, it will be trivial for me to write the script that reads that file and resolves the ratings against the actual files (e.g. checks whether the rating conflicts with an already-existing rating, updates the audio file, etc.) Does anyone have a plugin that does this? I came across the 'iTunes Update' plugin... can anyone tell me what the 'indirect/manual' mode does? Does it just write to a file? Thanks, Mike. (As an aside, my dynamic playlist strategy will be to write scripts to scan my library and write out playlists based on some user-defined criteria. For example: "Playlist 'Best of Tom Waits' contains tracks where artist='Tom Waits' and rating>3", etc. Whenever I update the ratings in my audio files, I'll re-generate all the playlists.) -- michael.iles ------------------------------------------------------------------------ michael.iles's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3231 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19772 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
